Loving Others Ministry (LOM) based in Rome, Georgia touches lives in ways that go far beyond meeting a physical need. The ministry and the volunteers and churches that support it become the body of Christ, a living picture of Christ’s love that is seen, felt, and experienced by those they have been called to serve. This ministry touches lives by meeting people at the intersection of physical need and spiritual hope by sharing the gospel while meeting living needs.
It restores dignity by meeting very real, tangible need - clothing, clean, weather-appropriate warm clothing says to someone living on the streets, “You matter.” It represents God’s love and reminds our friends they are not forgotten or invisible.
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me.” Matthew 25:35–36
When practical needs are met without strings attached, hearts soften. Clothing alone is important, but when it is given in the name of Jesus along with the message of the Gospel, it becomes a living testimony of God’s love. A smile, kind words, and respectful interaction reflect Christ’s compassion and open hearts to receive more than material help.
“Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”1 John 3:18
As relationships and trust is built, volunteers have opportunities to gently share the Gospel with compassion and pray for those we serve. Often many experiencing homelessness carry deep wounds, guilt, or shame. Hearing that Jesus offers forgiveness, love, hope, deliverance and salvation can be life-changing.
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.” Luke 4:18
“For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” John 3:17
Homelessness often comes with feelings of hopelessness and despair. LOM reminds people that their current situation does not define their future. God sees them, knows them, and has not forgotten them and provides them hope beyond their current circumstances.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
LOM volunteers understand that prayer is a powerful gift. Taking time to pray with someone communicates care, faith, and dependence on God. Many people experiencing homelessness rarely have anyone pray with them, not just for them. Some may encounter God’s presence for the first time.
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18
“Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.” James 5:16
LOM’s clothing ministry is not a one-time transaction—it’s about relationships. Even brief encounters can leave lasting impact. A kind word, a prayer, or a verse spoken in love may be remembered long after the clothes wear out. Remembering names, listening to stories, and showing consistency reflect the relational heart of God. Romans 8:15-16 tells us:
The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.
“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2
When the Big C Church serves the homeless faithfully, it becomes a visible witness to the community. It plants the seeds of eternal hope. Lives are transformed not only for those receiving but also the lives volunteers who become further sanctified and grow in compassion and obedience.
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
Loving Others Ministry a homeless gospel-based clothing ministry does far more than provide clothes. It restores dignity, shares hope, proclaims salvation, to those we have been called to serve. Through simple acts of obedience, God uses fabric, faith, and love to change lives—one person at a time.
